A pair of elderly dogs whose owner sadly passed away, have been given a second chance at happiness, thanks to Dogs Trust Salisbury.
Fifteen-year old Parsons Terriers, Roy and Sugar arrived at the rehoming centre earlier in October and were cared for by a loving foster carer who provided them with all the home comforts they were used too.
But the golden oldies have both landed on their paws, after being adopted by Cathy Cooke and her daughter Alison from Clevedon, who were originally looking to adopt a puppy.
Proving they have double the love to give, Cathy and Alison have welcomed the old age dogs into their hearts and home where they can put their paws up and relax in their twilight years.
Cathy said: “I’ve been a supporter of Dogs Trust for some time now and had been looking to adopt a dog for a while. I always imagined adopting a puppy or a younger dog, and hadn’t really considered an oldie, let alone two. But when I saw these two on the website, I was smitten and thought it would be a lovely happy ending to give them a second chance at happiness.
“We knew they’d be the perfect addition to our family and our thoughts were confirmed when we met them – they’re wonderful. We are so pleased to be able to give two elderly dogs a home and it feels like they have always been part of the family. We’re so excited to have them in our lives – we think we’re the lucky ones to be able to adopt such a wonderful duo.”
Claire Rowe, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Salisbury said: “It’s always sad when older dogs come to us after their whole world has changed by Roy and Sugar have really found their happy ending with Cathy and Alison.
“We’re predicting that more and more dogs will need our help in the coming months, so if you feel now really is the right time to be getting a dog, take a look at our website to find out more, and change the tale for more of our rescue hounds.
“Dogs Trust Salisbury is not open for public browsing, but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog to us. We have set up new processes which include social distancing measures to help keep staff and our visitors safe.”
Dogs Trust estimates that up to 40,000 more dogs could be at risk of abandonment in the fallout of the coronavirus.
