Stray spaniel nursed back to health thanks to Battersea

A sweet Cocker Spaniel called Pumpkin has been given a new zest for life thanks to the help of leading animal welfare charity, Battersea, and the generous support of players of the People’s Postcode Lottery

For 10 years, funds raised by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have helped Battersea expertly care for thousands of animals at the charity’s three centres and across the world, including two-year-old Pumpkin.

Pumpkin was brought to Battersea’s Old Windsor centre after being found as a stray and was very worried of her surroundings, shying away from staff and avoiding any fuss. The charity’s expert veterinary team were quick to give her a check-up and noticed that Pumpkin had a painful ongoing ear infection which would require specialist surgery.

Following her operation, although the sweet Cocker Spaniel was fit and healthy and no longer in pain, she was getting used to being partially deaf and needed to continue building her confidence. Thankfully, one of Battersea’s dedicated Foster Carers was able to take her home to recover in a relaxed setting and see how she coped in a home environment. She quickly relaxed and started showing off her affectionate nature, loving nothing more than perching herself on her Foster Carer’s lap for plenty of chin scratches or stretching out in the middle of the sofa and having a long snooze.

Soon enough, Pumpkin was ready to find a home to call her own and was quickly spotted by her new family who took her to start her life in Hertfordshire. Since then, she has been enjoying plenty of cuddles and has become particularly fond of day trips to the beach.

Talking about Pumpkin, Hannah Gee, Team Leader at Battersea Old Windsor, said: “Pumpkin is such a wonderful dog and it’s so rewarding to see her blossom following all the hard work the team put in to get her ready for a new home. Thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery who have been supporting us for an incredible 10 years, we are able to continue our vital work and help animals like Pumpkin for as long as they need us. We’re so pleased that she’s now found a loving family who can give her all the love and fuss she could wish for.”
