Spook-tacular pets hunt for own haunted houses this Howl-oween

If you’re looking for a furry fiend to join your haunted house this Halloween then the RSPCA has got the most spook-tacular pets who are ready to put their new family under their spell.

Will the full moon this scary season help the RSPCA’s lost souls find their eternal homes?

If you could offer a Halloween home to a pet in need, please head to the RSPCA’s Find A Pet online search function to find the right pet for you.

Pumpkin needs a patch

Four-month-old Pumpkin (pictured above) is a sweetheart who is looking for a patch of his own after coming into the RSPCA as a stray.

She’s an adventurous and inquisitive youngster who would suit most homes and could live with children. She’d like to be the only pet but would love access to the outside so she can explore. She loves people so would like owners who are around a lot of the day.

Casper the friendly lurcher

Just like his ghostly namesake, there’s nothing scary about Casper. This sweet four-year-old  likes to make friends and has lots of energy so is looking for an active family who have time to work with him on his continued training.

He’d like an experienced owner in an adult-only home where he’ll be the only pet and can enjoy access to a secure garden.

Could Spidey join your friendly neighbourhood?

One-year-old Syrian hamster Spidey was rescued with a number of other animals when his previous owner could no longer take care of him.

As his name would suggest, he’s a curious and adventurous hamster who loves exploring a big space and needs lots of enrichment to keep him busy. He is a bit skittish and doesn’t have much experience being handled so his new owner will need to help him get used to this.

Midnight girl

Young bunny Midnight is a sweet but shy girl who struggles to trust people. She’s not been handled much so her carers are trying to get her used to being picked up confidently.

She’s an independent rabbit who knows her own mind and will do what she wants, when she wants to! But she’d love to find a home with a friendly male rabbit and with a family with older, rabbit-savvy children.

Wicked Wednesday

Unlike the Addams family character she’s named after, our Wednesday is very friendly and sweet, with a lot of love to give. She was rescued by RSPCA officers as part of a welfare case and has really come out of her shell in our care.

She loves people so unfortunately does struggle being left home alone for periods of time, and will need an owner who can slowly and positively introduce periods of time on her own.

She can be a little nervous in new surroundings so will be best as the only pet in her new home but could live with older children.

Morticia & Celeste

This magical pair of five-month-olds were rescued by the RSPCA from a multi-cat home and are now looking for a home of their own. They can be a little nervous at first but, given time and patience, will begin to come out of their shells.

These spook-tacular kittens are looking for an adult-only home but could live with other cats. This pretty pair is sure to put a spell on you as they reach their potential – they just need a chance.

Pick a Pumpkin

One-year-old lurcher Pumpkin is a friendly and bouncy dog who has lots of energy and is very playful. He’s looking for an active home and will need some training but is a lovely dog who will make a wonderful addition to the right family.

He could live with teenage children but would be best without any cats in the home, although he may be suitable to live with another dog.

Frankenstein needs a friend

Sweet little Frankenstein is a kitten who is looking for a forever home to call his own. Staff who look after him describe him as a ‘friendly little monster’ who loves to play in tunnels and practise his claw skills on his scratch post.

Frankenstein likes to be around people and loves company so will likely spend a lot of time inside the house. He’d be happy living with children, another cat and with friendly dogs.

Pennywise and Georgie want to get busy living new life

While Pennywise and Georgie may be named after characters from Stephen King’s IT there’s nothing terrifying about these little cuties.

The pair of English crested guinea pigs are young males who can be nervous and would like a new home with owners who can bring them out of their shell. Like the story, Pennywise sometimes chases Georgie, but the pair also love each other and like to share fresh greens.

Could one-eyed cat be your Shadow?

Poor Shadow arrived into RSPCA care after his owner died and with an eye injury which meant he needed to have his eye removed.

The five-year-old is a nervous puss who is looking for a patient and quiet adult-only home where he can have his own space. Could you give him a chance to really shine?

Spook-tacular Salem

Unlike the US town he’s named after where the infamous trials were held, Salem is very friendly and fun! He’s an active cat who loves spending time with people but doesn’t like other animals so is looking for a home as the solo pet.

The two-year-old was found abandoned with an injured tail and he had to have the tip of his tail amputated but it hasn’t slowed him down and he’s got lots of life left to enjoy!

Ghostie

Three-year-old Ghostie was rescued by the RSPCA from a multi-cat home. He can be a little shy to start with but soon comes out of his shell when he feels comfortable.

He’s a friendly chap who enjoys fuss and is affectionate when he wants to be. He likes to sit in the sun and play with his toys.

He has a sensitive stomach so requires a fish-based diet, and could live with another cat and children.

Rehome a pet this Adoptober

The RSPCA’s ‘Homes for Halloween’ appeal kicks off as the RSPCA reveals it is facing a rehoming crisis across England and Wales. New figures show that in 2023, 42% more animals arrived at the RSPCA than were adopted.

Rehoming centres across England and Wales are at near or full capacity, with pets either waiting to be adopted, or being assessed for adoption – leaving countless dogs, cats and other animals still in emergency boarding waiting for a place at a rehoming centre.

In response, the RSPCA – which is marking its 200th year – has been running its annual ‘Adoptober’ rehoming campaign; urging animal lovers to adopt a pet from a rescue centre or RSPCA branch rather than buying from a breeder to help ease the spiralling rehoming crisis.
