‘Pawlitical’ visitors welcomed to Dogs Trust in Wales

Staff from Dogs Trust centres in Wales recently welcomed several ‘pawlitical’ guests to the rehoming centres in Bridgend and Cardiff with visits from 10 Members of Parliament, Members of the Senedd and Council Leaders.

Jo Stevens MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Wales and MP for Cardiff Central; Samuel Kurtz MS, Shadow Minister for Environment and Rural Affairs; Joel James MS, MS for South Wales Central Region and Rhys ab Owen MS, MS for South Wales Central all visited Dogs Trust’s state of the art rehoming centre in Cardiff, whilst Councillors from Bridgend County Borough Council Huw David, Council Leader; Rhys Goode, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations; Heidi Bennett, Ross Thomas, Norah Clarke and Della Hughes all visited the charity’s Bridgend Rehoming Centre.

All were given tours of the rehoming centres and chatted to staff about a variety of issues which impact dogs in Wales, including puppy smuggling, the charity’s Freedom Project which has just launched in Wales and supports dog owners fleeing domestic abuse, as well as the recent campaign, calling for an end to Greyhound racing in Wales.

Following the visit Kim Davies, Deputy Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Cardiff, said: “It’s been a pleasure to welcome a number of MPs and MSs to out rehoming centre over the last few weeks. As well as being able to show what an amazing job our dedicated staff do on site, it was important to speak about other important issues affecting dogs and their owners. We’re looking forward to working with politicians at every level to make life better for dogs and their owners across Wales.”

Angela Wetherall, Rehoming Centre Manager, Dogs Trust Wales, added: “We do so much work in our rehoming centres and it’s great to see so many politicians taking an interest in the important work our teams do to support dogs in our care. Working with councillors, MSs and MPs, we can hopefully keep more dogs in their homes, with their families and leading happy lives in Wales. These visits are a vital part of this work.”
