This September animal welfare charity, Battersea, is inviting animal lovers across the UK to pick up their leads and put on their trainers and take part in Walk for Rescue.
A virtual walking challenge that dog owners can take on with their canine companion by their side – to raise money for Battersea and help the charity be here for every dog and cat.
Battersea’s Walk for Rescue is open to every human and every dog between 17-25 September, and dog owners everywhere can take on their own unique challenge, setting their own distance goal and how they want to achieve it. Whether that’s trekking up Snowdon or making the most of the summer evenings with an extra-long walk in the local park, walking to the shops instead of driving, or getting off the bus a stop early, the aim is to have fun and help raise money for a great cause.
The much-loved charity is challenging participants to cover as many miles as they can across the eight-day event, be that with a team of friends and family or solo with your dog, going for a one-off long-distance stroll or even a five mile walk each day. Whatever participants choose, every walk will help Battersea be there for dogs and cats everywhere. For ideas and inspiration, Battersea’s Walk for Rescue page has plenty of fundraising tips.
Jasmine Monk, Senior Challenge Events Officer at Battersea, said: “We are really excited to be launching our new Battersea’s Walk for Rescue virtual event and can’t wait to see what everyone gets up to as part of their own unique challenge – we know dog walkers can clock up the miles in no time, and we are excited to see what everyone can achieve.
“Battersea continues to go above and beyond for every dog and cat in the UK and overseas – from rescuing and rehabilitating animals at our centres, to supporting our Animal Partners and rescues across the UK and further afield – so every penny you raise will help us continue our mission to be there for every dog and cat who needs our help. Registration is open now and we look forward to seeing everyone having fun on their walks through the #WalkForRescue photo challenge!”
All registered participants will receive a free Walk for Rescue t-shirt and dog bandana to take part in and snap a photo for the #WalkForRescue photo competition for a chance to win some tasty human and doggy treats. Throughout September Battersea is also asking pet lovers everywhere to support the rescue movement and “Wear Blue for Rescue”. An opportunity for rescue owners and supporters to show their love of rescues and to unite behind the Rescue symbol, championing the wonderful rescue animals that are all around us in our homes and communities.
People can take part by wearing the Rescue symbol – with items on the Battersea website to buy including pin badges, tote bags or a pet tag. Wear the symbol with pride, share on social media by tagging @Battersea and using #RescueIsMyFavouriteBreed and donate to help rescue animals everywhere.
