New year, new start for former stray dogs

The new year is off to a waggy start at Dogs Trust Manchester as it has found a forever home for two inseparable canine companions.

Two-year old Whippets Spud and Zippy arrived at the Denton-based rehoming centre just before Christmas after being found wandering the streets alone.

However, they are now heading home with the James family who have found enough room in their hearts and homes for the best buddies.

Anthony James and his son, Joseph, wanted to provide a rescue dog or two with a loving home and when they were introduced to spud and Zippy, they were the ideal doggie duo for them.

Anthony from Binscall, said: “We knew we wanted to rescue, and we wanted lively dogs with lots of personality, and these two were perfect. We have had a Whippet before, so it’s great to rescue two; they are such lovely dogs and these two are fantastic.

“They are really playful but also peaceful and like to relax, so they are ideal. It’s hard to think of them as being along having been found as strays, so giving them a loving home is a wonderful way to start 2020.”

Last year Dogs Trust Manchester found homes for 870 dogs and at any one time the team look after around 90 dogs of all shapes and sizes who are waiting to find their special someone.

Dawn Bishop, Dogs Trust Manchester, said: “Spud and Zippy are absolutely adorable, full of energy and very sweet so we are delighted that they have found a home together. As ever, we have lots of other dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes looking for a loving new owner to make 2020 a year to remember.

“We’d urge anyone wanting to welcome a dog into their life this year to pay us a visit and give a rescue dog a second change.”
