With her soulful eyes and playful nature, it’s a mystery to everyone at Dogs Trust Merseyside why eight-year-old Angel is set to spend her third Christmas without a home of her own.
On 20 December, the playful American Bulldog will have been waiting 1,000 days for someone to fall in love with her, and the team at the Huyton-based centre are baffled as to why only a handful of people have ever enquired about her.
Georgina Lowery, Manager at Dogs Trust Merseyside, says: “All we want for Christmas is for Angel to find a forever home. She arrived with us in 2022 through no fault of her own, after a change in her family’s circumstances meant she could no longer stay with them. Since then, to the team’s astonishment, only one person has been to meet her.
“She is a really loving girl and once you’ve got a bond with her, she is your friend forever. She’s always excited to see her favourite people and will smother them with kisses and white hairs! She is playful, loves to spend time with people and enjoys having a fuss made of her. What’s not to love?”
Since Angel arrived, the team have found forever homes for over 1,600 dogs, including more than 50 American Bulldogs and American Bulldog Crossbreeds, but Angel is still waiting. To give her a break from kennel life, Angel has been spending time in a home with volunteer foster carers who say she settled in quickly and is a delight to have around.
Georgina says: “Angel can be shy at first, but she has really grown in confidence and being in a foster home has done her the world of good. She is very chilled out in the home and loves to curl up on the sofa for a snooze when she isn’t watching the world go by out of the window.
“She loves to play with her squeaky ball and likes to have walks at quieter times where she won’t be bothered by noisy traffic or too many dogs coming up to her. She has proved herself to be the perfect houseguest and she really does deserve to find her happy place in her forever home. There’s no place happier than a warm, comfortable home, surrounded by your loved ones and that’s what we want more than anything, for Angel.”
Angel can live with children of secondary school age but would like to be the only dog in her new home.
