Against a backdrop of soaring veterinary costs which have driven many owners to stop seeing a vet altogether, a brand-new pet clinic opening today aims to shake up the industry by offering cost-effective primary care for the capital’s cats and dogs.
Mindful of the cost-of-living crisis which threatens to make pet ownership unaffordable for many, Snoots Vets, which opened today in Camden Walk, Islington, wants to change the way Londoners think about the way they look after their furry family members.
Operating more like a GP surgery for cats and dogs, the business is founded on the principle of keeping pets well and providing them with everything they need for a long, healthy life.
For £33 a month, members receive an all-inclusive care package that covers the cost of all jabs, lab tests, x-rays, travel certificates, neutering and unlimited health checks for their pet.
Nearly two-thirds (66%) of pet owners surveyed by Snoots Vets say they have put off visiting the vet because they are worried about the cost. In London, this is the case for a staggering 84% of owners. And worryingly almost half of London pet owners (48%) have admitted to giving their pets human over the counter medicine to save on vet bills.
Founder of Snoots Vet, Jonathan Moyal, said: “Traditionally at a vets, you visit for a problem, and quite often, see the bills rack up. Things such as X-rays, travel documents and neutering can cost hundreds of pounds and we know that the worry of these costs is leading some pet owners to simply avoid the treatment their pet needs.
“We wanted to create a service that supports pet owners with a simple flat rate fee, and you know everything that is covered in the price. Our clinic acts as your pet’s GP. We’re here to help prevent problems before they happen, counsel you and help you manage your veterinary care choices when things get messy.
“We want to be there for your furry family members throughout their life, so you get as many good years as possible with them. Everything is set up so you can come in whenever you want, and you won’t get another bill for a visit – ever!”
