Inspirational and feel-good images light up RSPCA young photo comp

The RSPCA is showcasing some of the most inspirational and feel-good images from the charity’s Young Photographer Awards over the last few years, as it hopes more amazing photos of animals will light up the competition again in 2024.

Entries are still open, and completely free, for the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards. And with the charity marking its 200th birthday this year, the RSPCA is urging budding photographers to enter what is expected to be its biggest and best photo competition yet with amazing prizes up for grabs.

The competition is part of the charity’s goal to help inspire everyone to create a better world for every animal with the photos showcasing the unique needs and personalities of a wide variety of animals.

Stingray Steve  Ollie Smith, aged 12,  from Swindon, Wiltshire won the 12–15 Mobile Phone and Devices category in 2021 with his photo of a stingray.

The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards remains open for entries and will close at midday on 15 August.

Every year, thousands of children and young people with a passion for photography, animals and nature enter the competition.

This year’s awards will be judged by a panel of experts in photography, including wildlife photographer, TV presenter and RSPCA President Chris Packham; wildlife photographer Rachel Bigsby; former competition winner-turned-professional photographer Catriona Parfitt; professional wildlife photographer and photographic guide Ellie Rothnie; and the RSPCA’s own award-winning photographers Andrew Forsyth and Emma Jacobs. Joining the judging panel this year is Fabian Rivers, also known as Dready Vet, who’s an exotic animal and wildlife vet and RSPCA ambassador and appears on CBBC’s The Pets Factor.

Winners in each category will be awarded trophies and a selection of prizes at a ceremony at the Tower of London in December, hosted by Packham.

Delightful Donkeys  Megan Brown, aged 15, from Whitchurch, Shropshire won the Picture Perfect Pets category in 2021 with these two cheeky donkeys.

Sponsors of the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards are Natures Images (wildlife photography holidays) and Camtraptions (camera traps for wildlife photography).

To mark the RSPCA’s 200th birthday, the charity has launched two new categories: Better World and City Life. More information can be found here: rspca.org.uk/ypa
