A gaggle of boo-tiful pets are hoping to find their spook-tacular homes this Howl-oween.
While some may be put off by their spooky names, the RSPCA is hoping that fans of All Hallows’ Eve will consider taking on a special pet this October 31st. The special rehoming appeal comes at the end of Adoptober – a month-long rehoming drive by the RSPCA to encourage more people to consider fostering and adopting rescue pets.
Sadly, this year’s campaign highlighted a looming animal rescue crisis as more pets are abandoned and taken into the charity’s care at the same time that rehoming rates are falling.
Here are just some of the hundreds of animals in the RSPCA’s care this Halloween season:
Ghost
Eighteen-month-old lop rabbit Ghost is a sweet, stunning boy who is described as ‘chilled out’ by the team at RSPCA Oxfordshire Branch, where he’s currently waiting for a forever home. He’d like to find a neutered female bunny to keep him company and would be best suited to a quiet home. He’s an inquisitive lad who loves to explore and play with his toys, and he’d be happy living indoors or outside as long as he has access to plenty of space.
Boo Boo
So good, they named him twice; Boo Boo is a three-year-old Pomeranian cross who is being cared for by the team at Llys Nini Animal Centre, in Swansea. He arrived in RSPCA care when his owner could no longer care for him. He is a sweet boy but has some challenging behaviours so is looking for an experienced owner who can continue his positive reward-based training. He’ll need someone with a lot of time who can help him adjust but he’s very energetic and clever, and working with him will be incredibly rewarding. He’d like someone who can come and meet him several times at the centre to get to know him. Boo-Boo would also like an adult-only home where he’ll be the only pet, and where he can enjoy lots of treats. He’s always on the go so is looking for active owners with plenty of time to give to him.
Hex
Seven-year-old puss Hex is certain to bewitch you with his beautiful eyes. He arrived at RSPCA Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire Branch through no fault of his own and is hoping to cast a spell on a new owner this Halloween. He’s a sweet but sensitive lad who can be a little shy. Once he gets to know you, he loves to snooze in your bedroom and have a little play. He’s looking for a quiet and calm home and would ideally like to be the only pet. Sadly, he’s tested positive for FIV so he’ll need to be kept away from other cats and would love access to a secure garden or catio.
Pumpkin
Beautiful ginger puss Pumpkin is searching for a home with his best friend, Peaches. The pair have spent their whole lives together and are nervous around people so are looking for a calm and quiet home to settle into. At Southridge Animal Centre, in Hertfordshire, they’ve been tested for FIV and are, unfortunately, positive, meaning that they’re looking for an indoor home. It’ll be difficult for them to adjust to an indoor life so it’s important that they have patient and understanding owners to help them adjust.
Spider
Spider is a three-year-old puss being taken care of at Ashford Garden Cattery, in Kent. He can be a little shy but is very friendly and absolutely loves ear scratches once he gets to know you. He has a wonderful purr and would like a home where he can go outside to explore. He could live with another cat and with older children but would prefer a home without dogs, and will need patient owners who can give him time and space to settle in.
Scooby
‘Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? We’ve got some work to do to find a new home for you now…’ This goofy one-year-old American bulldog cross is patiently waiting for his paw-fect home at the RSPCA’s Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch in West Yorkshire. Scooby loves to play tug and enjoys zoomies and lots of strokes. He isn’t a fan of walking on noisy roads but loves to explore in the woods and across the fields. He can be unsure of strange people and dogs he doesn’t know so is looking for someone who can help build his confidence. Once he’s made friends he likes to wag with his whole body to say ‘hello’! He’s a gentle giant who’d love a home without other pets. Scooby’s a bright spark who knows lots of commands already but needs someone to teach him that being left home alone isn’t as scary as All Hallows Eve!
Shadow
A little Shadow looms at Stubbington Ark, in Hampshire, but he’s not one to fear. This one-year-old Abyssinian guinea pig is looking for a new home after his previous owners were unable to keep him and his brother, Peanut. Unfortunately the pair started fighting so have been separated and are looking for homes with female guineas they can bond with. Shadow was nervous when he first arrived but is growing in confidence and enjoys having his long locks groomed. He’d like a large, secure home to call his own and a friend to spend his days with.
Raven
While ravens have historically featured as harbingers of doom, this Raven is a sweet but shy girl who is looking for someone to give her a chance. The three-year-old puss – at Bury, Oldham and District Branch, in Greater Manchester – loves to come to you for a stroke and is looking for a quiet home with owners who will help her settle in. She could live with another cat and with older children but would prefer a home without a dog and where she can enjoy access to a garden.
