Get the steps in for National Dog Walking Month with WeWard this January

January is Walk Your Dog Month and what better way to kick start your New Year’s Resolutions by getting out in the great outdoors and walking off some of that festive food and drink?

The most obvious health benefit to you and your dog being is getting outdoors to exercise this January, why not receive wards for walking every day and convert them directly into cash, gifts or donations to your favourite charity by downloading WeWard from the App Store or Google Play this year, to help kickstart your own and your dogs wellbeing.

WeWard suggests five health and well-being benefits to getting outdoors with your dog to avoid the Januaury Blue’s:

  1. Get out and active with your dog – If getting sweaty at the gym isn’t your thing, why not adapt walking at your own pace with your dog by your side whilst exploring a new area of your local area.
  2. Increase your pets’ light exposure and take a desk break– For dogs, heading to the local park during daylight hours will get the circulation going, give them a chance to sniff (engage their brain), chase and engage in natural breed enrichment, and provides you with a break from your desk.
  3. A mental boost – Taking your dog on a walk is a constructive way to keep your dog entertained and mentally stimulated and allows them some one-on-one time with you. New walking routes allow their mind and body to be exercised by discovering new paths, smells and fellow dog and human companions.  In fact, routine can even help reduce aggression and anxiety in dogs (and humans).
  1. Make new dog friends – Start the year with meeting and socialising with other dog walkers in your local park for your pet, and for you, making you both feel better for being outdoors.
  1. Feel organised and stick to routine – Just like humans, dogs do a lot better in life when they stay on a routine. Routines help can even make dogs easier to train. Some behavioral theorists say that it gives them a happier, more receptive to training feeling when they have control over their environment.
