Sunshine may be in short supply at the moment, but one dog in particular waiting for a new family at Dogs Trust Manchester could certainly bring warmth and happiness into someone’s home.
Lurcher Sol, whose name is that of a Roman sun god, arrived on a warm summer’s day last year and the team are in the dark as to why the nine-year-old hasn’t found his forever home yet.
Tracy Hill, Co-ordinator of the Home from Home fostering service at Dogs Trust Manchester, says: “Sol is absolutely beautiful inside and out. He loves being with people so could live with children aged fourteen and over and although he can’t live with cats, as being a Lurcher he might like to chase them, he could happily live with small furries or birds that could be kept separate from him.
“We are really surprised he hasn’t found a new home after so long as he is a gentle, friendly sweetheart. We hope it’s a case of new year, new start for him as he really does deserve a home of his own.”
Sol loves heading out on new adventures and will walk happily by someone’s side, unless he sees another dog or a feline friend as he then tends to get over-excited, so the team have been working with him to keep his focus and as a lover of tasty treats, particularly ham, he is responding well to training. Due to his friendly, loving nature he has become known as ‘sweet Sol’ at the centre and having settled into his foster home, his foster carers say he truly does live up to his name as he is a ray of sunshine.
Tracy adds: “Sol has been brilliant in the foster home and it’s lovely that he’s enjoying his home comforts, but we really want to find him the forever home he deserves. Plus, if Sol finds a home, it makes room for us to help another dog in need and sadly there are many, many dogs that need our help.”
Sol is a typical Lurcher, enjoying short bursts of activity or a nice walk followed by lots of lounging time. So, he would benefit from a secure garden where he can enjoy a run, before heading inside to chill out. His foster carers have built up his confidence when it comes to being left home alone. His new family would need to take the same approach, building up his alone time gradually whilst he begins to understand he has found a home for life.
