Experts reveal how to keep your dog calm & feeling safe while traveling this Christmas

As the hectic Christmas travel season approaches, many families will want to bring along their much loved pets with them, which can seem like a stressful thought at first.

Whether it’s getting the train to see family or taking a festive break via car, raw dog food company Ethically Raised has put together some top tips on how to keep your pet calm and feeling safe while on a relatively long journey,

1) Take your dog on a long walk – Taking your pup on a long walk beforehand should help with tiredness, meaning a higher chance of them sleeping throughout the journey.

2) Take breaks – Giving your dog a break might not be possible, but if it’s an option, it’s best to do so. Letting your dog have the opportunity to go to the toilet and breathe some fresh air can really help with calming them down.

3) Try shorter trips beforehand & get your dog used to the car – If travelling via car, let your pet get used to the space; give them time to sniff and explore where they will be sat during the journey. Additionally, try making shorter trips in the car or on a train to get them used to the motion.

4) Create a comfortable environment – use treats, blankets and toys to create a safe space for your pet; this will give them something familiar in a potentially not-so-familiar environment.

5)  Praise them – Give your pet constant reminders about how good they’re doing and reassurance if needed; this will help your pet know they’re doing the right thing and making their owner proud.
