Elderly Eric seeks quiet retirement home

Elderly pooch Eric is on the hunt for retirement home where he can get a good nine hours sleep.

Fourteen-year old terrier cross Eric, who is 98 in dog years, is currently being looked after by RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Essex.

Eric is seeking a calm, quiet home where he’ll have a comfy bed of his own, lots of affection and at least nine hours sleep every night.

Animal centre manager, Deborah Satchall, said: “Eric is an older chap and he really doesn’t deserve to be in kennels. He’s really unsettled here so we’ve currently got him in a lovely foster home while we look for his forever home.

“We urgently want to find this senior pooch a quiet retirement home with a comfy bed of his home. He loves human company and finds being alone quite scary so is looking for someone who is around for much of the day.

“He loves affection and his favourite thing is having his back and ears scratched. While he generally likes pottering about, sometimes he has sudden bursts of energy and will zoom around the room.”

Little Eric is fairly deaf, so his foster carers keep him on his lead while out on walks, which he really enjoys. Sometimes loud noises can make him just, but staff think he’ll be suitable for a home with older children.

He can be a little jumpy so his foresters try to make him aware of their presence before stroking him. He loves meeting other dogs but would prefer a home without a cat.

Deborah added: “Eric loves to snooze. He likes to be in bed by 10pm and doesn’t really want to get up before 7am. He also enjoys a long afternoon nap. He prefers to sleep in cool spots like in doorways or on tiled floors as he has a thick, fluffy coat.

“He’s a lovely dog who likes an easy life and will make a wonderful companion for the right person.”

If you think you can offer Eric the retirement home he needs, you can find out more information about him at www.rspca.org.uk.
