Desperate plea for Coco -This week is her sad milestone of one year in RSPCA care

The RSPCA has launched a heartfelt plea to dog lovers to rehome sweet Coco – who sadly this week reaches the heartbreaking milestone of spending one year in RSPCA kennels.

Coco’s story is even more heart wrenching – because in her previous life she had an awful time and had been kept outdoors with only a shed for shelter.

Four-year-old Akita Coco was taken in by the RSPCA – but despite having found a new home last year  – she was sadly then brought back to the centre only  a short time later – through absolutely no fault of her own.

This Friday (January 24) will be one year since Coco came into RSPCA care -and staff at Block Fen Animal Centre in Cambridgeshire are hoping that they can now at last find the perfect forever home for this very special little girl.

Georgina Lott, Coco’s main handler at RSPCA Block Fen, said: “Everyone’s heart breaks a little when they see that poor Coco is still waiting patiently to find her forever home.

“It really brings a lump to our throats to know she got so close to finding a family – and then sadly through no fault of hers it didn’t work out – and now she is back to square one.

“She’s spent a whole year in kennels – and while we do all we can to make this as comfortable and enjoyable as we can for our dogs – it’s just not the same as having your own home or sofa to curl up on.

“It is also incredibly saddening to know that in her previous life she didn’t have the things that every dog deserves. She was kept outside – with only a shed for shelter.

“This probably explains why she enjoys being outside so much because in part that’s all she has known.

“We really can’t bear to think of Coco spending one day longer in kennels than she needs too – especially now given that she has reached the sad milestone of one year in care. I cannot express how incredibly loving and how she has such a gentle nature and a big personality – she really is just an all-round good girl.

“She absolutely loves cuddling up to big soft toys -especially Buttercup her giant teddy unicorn which is her absolute favourite and she snuggles up with every night.

“We even set up a video in her kennel to see how she settles at night – and it’s so sweet to just see her cuddled up in her big bed and blankets with her faithful toy unicorn by her side.

“She is also the cleanest dog I have ever had to look after – her kennel is always pristine in the morning – and then she greets us with a happy face and her tail-wagging –  showing off her tidy room and so happy to see us!

“She’s such a good girl she walks on a lead really well – we recently took her for first day out in the local town – and she didn’t put a paw wrong – and she absolutely adored exploring the big wide world** and meeting new people.

“We know that somewhere out there is the perfect home for Coco – and we would just ask that anyone who thinks they could offer a home please get in touch – please don’t think that someone else will adopt her because you could actually be the right home for her.”

Coco is quite relaxed around other dogs – but would be best as the only pet in a home in order for her to thrive.

Coco’s dream family should be knowledgeable of her breed, and some of the characteristics that entails, but most importantly be willing to dedicate the time and patience needed to let her shine.

She’ll thrive with adopters who understand canine body language and can pick up on moments of discomfort in the environment as she adjusts to being in a home.

Having spent a large portion of her life outdoors Coco is a very clean girl, and would benefit from having access to a large garden space.
