A sweet and active dog who has spent 400 days in RSPCA care is looking for someone to be her ‘big spoon’.
Two-year-old Jamie was taken in by the team at the RSPCA’s York Animal Home in September last year after she was abandoned outside the centre, which is run by the York, Harrogate & District Branch*.
This weekend (Saturday 2 November) marks Jamie’s 400th day in RSPCA care.
Mandy Broadhead, from the shelter, said: “We were all having our morning team meeting and looked out of the window to see someone had crept in and tied her to our gates.
“We managed to trace some previous owners for her but it was tricky to establish exactly where she’d come from as it seems she’d been passed around multiple homes.
“What we do know is that she became really unsettled in a home with young children so we now want to find her a quieter home where she won’t have to spend time with youngsters.”
When Jamie first arrived she was very nervous and reactive around other dogs. The behaviour team has worked closely with her and she’s progressed well with positive clicker-based training and she loves her treats.
Mandy added: “The training has really worked for Jamie and now she can be quite sociable around some dogs; she’s really changed over the time she’s been with us – which has been far too long.
“She can be timid around new people but once you get to know her she’s incredibly loving and sweet.
“Some of our staff have taken her home for sleepovers to give her a break from kennels and she absolutely loves to curl up on the sofa and watch TV with them and climb into bed. They say she likes to be little spoon so now we’re hoping we can find her the perfect big spoon!
“She’s a beautiful dog – both inside and out – so we can’t understand why she’s constantly being overlooked. We’ve rehomed more than 160 dogs so far this year, but poor Jamie has had to sit at her kennel door and watch as they all go off to their new homes with their tails wagging. We’re desperate for it to be her turn next…”
Jamie is looking for an active, adult-only home where she could potentially live with another dog, pending a successful introduction. She’s a bright spark who loves treats and enjoys learning so will thrive with further training and has enjoyed scent work.
Jamie will need owners who can continue her positive, socialisation with other dogs and can also slowly introduce her to being left home alone.
Mandy added: “Jamie is a playful, intelligent, affectionate dog who just needs someone to give her a chance.”
