Charity launches ‘Remembrance Paw’ to pay tribute to service animals

A charity that supports police dogs has launched a new ‘Remembrance Paw’ so animal-lovers can pay tribute to service animals both past and present.

The Thin Blue Paw Foundation protects, celebrates and rehabilitates serving and retired police dogs across the UK.

The charity – which wants to celebrate the sacrifice made by service animals, both past and present – has launched the ‘Remembrance Paw’ for animal-lovers to buy for themselves, or their pets, to pay their respects this Remembrance Day.

Charity trustee Kieran Stanbridge said: “Millions of animals ran, galloped and flew into World Wars One and Two, and many more have fought in conflict or served their country or community since and we felt it was time there was a special symbol to pay tribute to them.

“The poppy has become a recognisable symbol around the world and we wanted to launch something that would pay tribute to the animals who have also made the ultimate sacrifice.

“We’ll be selling the ‘Remembrance Paw’ so people can pay their respects while also supporting our Foundation to help police dogs today who need our help.”

The Thin Blue Paw attends the Animals in War memorial for a special Remembrance Day service every year, and the charity’s trustees lay a wreath to pay their respects to all service animals, both past and present.
