Cat spends over 200 days in rescue centre waiting for forever home

The RSPCA is appealing to find a special home for white and tabby cat Daisy who has spent a total of 229 days in the charity’s care.

Four-year-old Daisy was rescued by an RSPCA officer as her previous owner was not able to take care of her.

When she first arrived at the RSPCA Newbrook Farm Animal Centre in Frankley Green, Birmingham, she was incredibly scared and refused to eat. The cattery staff were so concerned for her welfare that they immediately tried to find a foster carer to give her some much-needed one-on-one attention in a home environment.

Emma Finnimore, Cattery Supervisor at RSPCA Birmingham, said: “Daisy is our longest stay cat and we have tried so hard to find her a home. She has been in our care since November 12 last year and went up for adoption in February following her rehabilitation. We found that Daisy was struggling to eat as she had ingested cotton and it was all through her stomach so she needed a procedure to remove this. Once her discomfort was gone she started to eat properly.

“Daisy is a sweet cat. It took her a long time to settle into her foster home life and put trust in her foster carer but now she is much happier, she’s eating well and playing. We think she’s ready for the next part of her journey to find a new, permanent home but we have had hardly any interest in her.”

The timid feline will need an experienced owner and a quiet home with either a single person or a couple with no other pets. She will also need her own ‘safe room’ initially to help her feel comfortable with lots of spaces to hide.

Emma added: “She will need time and space to settle in slowly, at her own pace, but once she does she will begin to explore more and is a very playful cat who loves having her favourite toys around. She’ll probably spend more time indoors but it would be nice for her to have the option to go outside if she feels brave enough. Her foster carer says Daisy’s absolute favourite things to do are to watch birds and sleep!”
