Burgess Pet Care has generously donated a large amount of its small animal & pet food ranges to Your Pet Food Bank, an initiative that is working tirelessly to ensure that pets in Yorkshire and some parts of Lincolnshire don’t go hungry this Christmas.
The Burgess team already makes significant annual donations to numerous worthwhile causes, such as greyhound and lurcher rescues, and Yorkshire Cat Rescue. The Yorkshire-based business is also the lead organiser of Rabbit Awareness Week and the annual Excel Vet Awards.
Claire Douthwaite, Excel Brand Manager at Burgess Pet Care, said: “Every year we make generous food donations to many rescue centres across the UK but this year has been a particularly tough one for so many families, so we thought “why stop there?” We saw the amazing work that the team at Your Pet Food Bank is delivering and felt absolutely compelled to get involved. Christmas can be a very stressful financial time for families, so we wanted to make sure as many of our furry, four-legged friends as possible can have a lovely Christmas dinner on us!”
Your Pet Food Bank was founded by Alison Smith, who started the initiative in April 2021 with two food banks in Sheffield, staffed by a small number of volunteers. Demand has ballooned since then to well over 2,000 meals per week. The pet food provides much-needed support to pet owners in the region and has since expanded to allow the team to service more than 20 different homeless shelters and community centres across Yorkshire and some parts of Lincolnshire.
Alison Smith said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive this kind and generous donation from Burgess Pet Care. We know first-hand just how hard pet owners are finding making ends meet this year, in perishingly cold conditions, during a cost of living crisis. This donation will make a huge difference to owners throughout the region and will hopefully alleviate some of their stress over the festive season. Our initiative began with a simple aim: to allow owners to keep and look after their pets despite times being hard. This donation allows us to do just that.”
