Burgess Pet Care brings back Greyhound and Lurcher two-week takeover for 2025

Thousands of pounds worth of support for dog rescue centres across the UK has been guaranteed as Burgess Pet Care brings back its Greyhound and Lurcher Two-Week Takeover.

The campaign, spanning the passionate independent company’s social media channels, will run from January 27 to February 9, featuring real life stories of pets who have found their happily after ever and of those who are looking for forever homes, as well as useful guides and tips to help care for these wonderful breeds and fascinating competitions.

A highlight is the annual call for nominations for the best rescue centre caring for the breeds, with those topping the list receiving supplies of Burgess’ Supadog Greyhound and Lurcher food.

Peter Lancaster, head of marketing at Burgess Pet Care, “So many greyhounds and lurchers have been dealt a real disadvantage in life. We continue to see how more support is required due to the pressures on charitable organisations doing their utmost to care for and protect them. Their commitment is unwavering, but in testing times, funds are hard to come by.

“We are a proud independent producer, with a strong, loyal following, and we’re keen to do our utmost to help give these loveable dogs a second chance.”

A total of £27,000-worth of stock will be distributed from Burgess’ Yorkshire headquarters as part of the campaign in 2025 – the biggest year in the campaign’s history.  The takeover will focus on Burgess’ Facebook and Instagram pages, from where the nominations for favourite rescue centres will be launched.

Last year saw more than 4,000 nominations, with six rescue centres receiving the delicious and nutritious supplies of Supadog Greyhound & Lurcher food.

Greyhound Gap, who won over 100 bags of Burgess Supadog food in 2024, said that winning the competition meant a lot to them: –

Lisa Cartwright, founder, said: – “Besides helping us financially when times are so tough, to know we are so well supported and well thought of was so nice to hear. We work so hard for the dogs and our staff team put in many hours beyond their paid time. To know it was seen and appreciated was fabulous.”

Another 2024 winner, Evesham Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue’s founder, Pip Singleton, added: – “Burgess Pet Care have saved so many dogs here, by simply donating food and helping us to feed them during a particularly hard year. The reallocation of funds meant we were able to provide more veterinary care to the dogs depending on us at the rescue.

“We are so grateful to Burgess Pet Care and the Greyhound & Lurcher Takeover campaign, who give back to smaller campaigns and make such a positive impact to the rescues that they donate to, and all the dogs living there. We really hope that this year, smaller rescues who are in need of the help receive nominations and win, as we did last year.”

Support for the breeds isn’t limited to the fortnight focus however, as for every sack of Burgess’ Supadog range sold, a 20p donation in the form of free food is made to UK rescue centres.

Nominations for independent greyhound and lurcher rescue centres to receive a share of the food donation can be made on Burgess’ dedicated website page https://www.burgesspetcare.com/events/greyhound-and-lurcher-two-week-takeover/
