The RSPCA is appealing to find a special home for a nervous cat who has been waiting to find her forever family for 459 days.
Buffy is a one-year-old female black cat who arrived into the charity’s care in August last year – and loves pet treats like Dreamies.
She was rescued by RSPCA officers from a multicat household where a number of cats were living in an unsuitable environment. Buffy had missed out on human interaction from a young age which has made her a little nervous and skittish.
Susanne Fearnley, rehoming coordinator at RSPCA Warrington, Halton and St Helens Animal Centre, said: “It just sucks that Buffy has been looking to find her forever home for over a year.
“Our little Buffy the Dreamies Slayer can be a little bit flighty sometimes but her confidence is improving all the time. When she arrived she was just a young kitten so she has spent most of her short life in a cattery with little experience of the outside world. All of her friends have been rehomed before her so the stakes are high now and we’d love to see Buffy become the chosen one this time and find the wonderful home she deserves.
“She is a typical playful youngster who likes her toys and has the loudest purr we’ve ever heard. She does have a nervous nature and as she’s a black cat, we think this might be why she is last to be picked. She will need someone who can help to build up her confidence even more but being a younger cat we have full faith that she will get there. She’s already such a sweet girl and although she can be skittish, with a little patience she will sit on our laps for some fuss.”
On average it took 30 days for a black cat to find their forever home in RSPCA care last year compared to just 16 days for a grey tabby cat.
Buffy will need to be the only cat in the home and she’d like access to the outdoors eventually but will probably spend more time inside as she’s never been outside before. She could live with families who have secondary school age children or older but would prefer not to live with a dog.
Susanne added: “She needs a quiet family with a patient and understanding owner who can give her the second chance she truly deserves.”
