The RSPCA is appealing for information after collecting a suffering rabbit who was given away by three teenagers in Hull.
The three boys, thought to be aged 13 or 14 years old – were reportedly approaching people and knocking on doors on 1st Avenue, offering the male rabbit for free.
RSPCA inspector Laura Barber said: “I picked him up from a concerned member of the public, who had taken him from the teenagers. The poor rabbit’s tummy and feet were stained yellow with urine and faeces, but much more seriously he had a large, hard black mass growing from his right cheek.
“He was examined by two vets who sadly decided that, due to the size of the mass, which was also infected, the most humane things to do was to put him to sleep, as it was clear he was suffering.”
The rabbit was described as mostly white with black and grey markings and was unneutered.
Inspector Barber said: “No one I’ve spoken to seems to have seen these teenagers before but I’m hoping someone knows something about this rabbit. He was such a sweet thing and based on the state of him, I am really concerned that the person whose care he was in may have other animals who are also suffering.”
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the charity’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for Inspector Barber.
