Animal behaviourist Jane Williams accepts honorary degree

Writtle University College in Essex has awarded an honorary degree to leading animal behaviourist, Jane Williams.

On Friday 8th September, Jane attended the University College’s graduation ceremony at Chelmsford Cathedral. The event celebrated the success of the Class of 2023 and highlighted Jane’s achievements.

Writtle University College’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Middleton, said: We were delighted to confer honorary awards as part of our graduation ceremony. Jane Williams is an inspiration to our students and has made incredible contributions to the animal behaviour sector.”

Jane is hugely influential in the field of pet behaviour and training.  As a clinical animal behaviourist and dog trainer she helps clients and their pets through the complexities and tribulations of problematic behaviours.

Jane is a former chair of both the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC). She worked with others to make these organisations more supportive and inclusive, developing anti-bullying policies and overhauling the assessment of professionals to broaden accessibility whilst maintaining high industry standards.

Her industry knowledge and supportive guidance have been instrumental in the development of the University College’s highly regarded pet behaviour and welfare courses. Jane also been key to the development of Writtle’s Pet Behaviour Academy. The highly successful initiative provides students with practical experience while supporting the University College’s dedication to animal welfare and high educational standards.

Jane said: “I have very much enjoyed working with the staff and students at Writtle University College to contribute to the animal management and animal science courses offered. The future generation of qualified trainers and behaviourists, who work in a humane way, and which we so need in the UK, will come from graduates like those at Writtle University College.”
